New Breast Imaging Technology: The Koning Difference

    Revolutionizing breast cancer detection

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in women in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death in American women.1 It is also treatable if detected early enough.

While there are various cancer detection modalities available, current breast imaging devices fail to expose as much as 35% of breast cancers and that number increases to 70% for women who have dense breasts.

    Current Breast Imaging Technology

Mammography is currently the most common device used to detect breast cancer. Though there is evidence that mammograms decrease breast cancer mortality in women aged 50 to 69 years, there is also evidence to show that they tend to lead to overdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures.2

Compounding on the issue of over-diagnosis, mammograms have potential to:

    • Increase women’s anxiety towards exams.
    • Cause potential delay in cancer diagnosis due to false negatives.
    • Cause a great deal of pain and discomfort for women due to compression of the breasts.

KBCT Vs. Other Forms of Breast Imaging

Other forms of breast imaging have characteristics used to mitigate the problems arising from mammography, but few can provide both early detection and accurate diagnosis.

Koning Breast Computed Tomography (KBCT) produces high-contrast real 3D images of the breast with exceptional spatial resolution, no painful compression, in a rapid 10-second exposure, and at radiation levels in the range of diagnostic mammograms. Our technology detects stage 0 and stage 1 cancers, finding tumors as small as 2 mm and calcifications as small as 200 microns.

    KBCT Compared to Traditional Modalities

The Koning Breast CT will dramatically improve the way clinicians visualize and evaluate breast tissue, mitigating patient discomfort and increasing survival rates. Future versions of our technology are expected to optimize early disease detection, diagnosis, intervention, and treatment.

    Where You Can Find KBCT

KBCT is available in locations worldwide and has four locations in the U.S. including:

    • Knoxville, TN
    • Rochester, NY
    • Tucson, AZ

Koning is changing the world’s perspective on breast imaging and has a vision to create a revolution in medical imaging through our advanced Computed Tomography technology. The power, versatility, and lower cost of Koning Breast CT will serve as a viable substitute for many traditional imaging applications.
