    Happy New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year! The year of the Snake begins this week, symbolizing renewal, transformation and healing. This festive occasion is a time to celebrate new beginnings with family – the perfect opportunity to remind the women in our lives to take care of their breast health.

Disparities in breast cancer imaging  and treatment persist among Asian American women, with language and cultural barriers often hindering timely access to care. Approximately 31% of Asian American women do not get regular mammograms, according to the American Cancer Society. In 2021, only 67% of Asian American women aged 50-74 had a mammogram in the past two years.

The American Cancer Society recommends annual exams for women 45-54 and every other year for women 55 and older. Getting a breast exam is crucial for early breast cancer detection as regular imaging can detect smaller tumors before symptoms appear, increasing chances of successful treatment and recovery.
